Skilled masonry workers are in demand as experienced tradespeople retire and contractors seek qualified new talent. Nationally, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects approximately 20,700 masonry job openings each year, driven largely by workforce replacement, with brick masons earning a median annual wage of more than $60,000.
This fall, Build Smart Institute is proud to launch its Masonry program, developed with the generous support of the Virginia Masonry Association. This partnership reflects a shared commitment to strengthening Virginia's masonry workforce and preparing the next generation of skilled professionals.
While in the program, students receive hands-on instruction using the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) curriculum. Upon successful completion, graduates will earn an industry-recognized NCCER Masonry credential, which is a nationally portable certification that demonstrates competency to employers. It also provides a strong foundation for career advancement in the skilled trades.
