Celebrating Build Smart Institute’s Class of 2025

On June 17, 2025, Build Smart Institute celebrated its fifth annual graduation ceremony. During the ceremony, the Class of 2025 was recognized for their outstanding achievements in gaining skills and credentials in the skilled trades. 

This year's class consisted of 62 graduates who completed the rigorous training required to earn 102 industry-recognized credentials in trades training and professional development.

Additionally, four students were honored with Founders Awards:

• Clint Davis received the Exemplar Award for going above and beyond to support and lead his peers during training.
• Jenson Selvia received the On the Rise Award for his drive to grow and ability to motivate and collaborate with others.
• Greg Jamison received the Perseverance Award for his exceptional persistence, strong work ethic, and positive attitude during the Core program.
• Manny Simmons received the Cornerstone Award for his outstanding diligence and persistence while pursuing the electrical trade.
• Jackson Seto received the Founder’s Award – Trade for his focus, commitment, and follow-through in completing his electric training and starting his career in the field.
• Ryan Balbach was awarded the Founder’s Award – Industry for the decisive steps he took to enter and excel in a career in the construction industry.

During the ceremony, Roanoke's Mayor Job Cobb brought remarks, and Craig Toalson, CEO of the Home Builders Association of Virginia, provided an inspirational keynote address. The Roanoke Regional Home Builders Association also awarded funds to Build Smart's Build U Scholarship fund to help future students access training opportunities at Build Smart.
