Build Smart recognizes the importance of providing accessible training. Through partnerships with community organizations, training is available to youth and adults. Our construction trade school’s partners include Habitat for Humanity in the Roanoke Valley, Goodwill Industries of the Valleys, and the Greater Roanoke Workforce Development Board.
In 2022, Build Smart and Ferrum College collaborated on a new partnership. The focus was to create training in technical trades and construction management. Launched in fall 2024, the program includes customized e-learning and hands-on training. Pathways include carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and more. In 2026, Build Smart received its
501(c) (3) non-profit designation. It also announced plans to
expand into Bedford County to increase service capacity and the number of communities in Southwest Virginia that will benefit from skilled trades training.
